If you say no, don’t allow yourself to change what happened to you. But DC’s character ‘Black Adam’ doesn’t fit this mold. That’s why he is not called a super hero but an anti hero.
The story of the film ‘Black Adam’ begins in a town named Kandak. There is a precious metal. In whose greed the king sends some people to find the metal named Eternium. A man named Teth Adam arrives there. But in return his family is murdered. When everything was going bad for Teth. Only then does he get his powers. With these powers, Teth becomes Kandak’s champion. However, Teth is in prison for one reason or another. The story opens 5,000 years after Teth’s captivity.
Outsiders have infiltrated Kandak. These people want to extract maximum Eternium. Exploit the residents there. This part of the story recounts America and its plan to establish peace in the Middle East. Well, the people of Kandak believe that their champion will make a comeback. He returns and creates a ruckus in this world, which is the story of the entire film. ‘Black Adam’ is related to the first Shazam. The film just didn’t set it up properly.
Admittedly, this is the origin story of ‘Black Adam’, but it never lets its protagonist get his feet right. Most bad superhero movies deal with some sort of problem. Not spending time on emotions properly. Keeping the audience away from your characters. Heavy VFX and action sequences to grab the attention of the people. All these things are also present in ‘Black Adam’. In the rush to complete the film in two hours, the right things do not get the right place. The characters seem very superficial. The film keeps you away from the concrete reason behind why he is doing this.
The point the film wants to reach, it does not take much time. In the first few minutes ‘Black Adam’ wakes up again. And then the rest of the action happens. From here every subplot does not run but runs. The film doesn’t let you spend time with any idea. In the name of purpose, the characters were caught only one line each. That’s what happened to me, that’s why I’m doing it.
When the story starts moving with dialogues instead of events, you can’t hold your attention. By the way, there is no fixed scale to judge good and bad films. But it is said that in good films, your attention does not go to the phone. ‘Black Adam’ could not do that.
I have a complaint with the plot of the film but it is not that there is nothing good in the whole film. ‘Black Adam’ has its moments. For example, at one point a superhero named Cyclone narrates an incident. when something bad happened to him. It was only after that incident that he decided to become a hero. It was a commentary on ‘Black Adam’ without direction. How do you use what happened to you? Help people or kill them mercilessly. The film has action scenes based on pop culture. where Black Adam battles his enemies, similar to the climax of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Being light on the level of emotion, the film does not leave much scope for acting. Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam is just as he is in every film. Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond, also plays a superhero named Fate in the film. I personally want to see more of both Pearce and Doctor Fate. But the film could not use them properly.
‘Black Adam’ is confused as to how to tell its story. It has to be shown as an original story or a multi-hero film. As a result, a balance between the two cannot be maintained. It is very important for superhero movies to break away from the set pattern. Otherwise it will just be a theme park. Wherever you go, enjoy the ride for a while. However, the climax of the film is spectacular, where Henry Cavill appears in the role of Superman opposite Black Adam.
